After conquering Broadway and securing itself a Tony Award, Shakespearean comedy Something Rotten! is coming home to the Bard's native land for a Manchester premiere, with a brand-new staging from director Tim Jackson! A wonderfully irreverent spoof, the show always has its tongue firmly lodged in its cheek... where else can you see Shakespeare twerking?
For any Elizabethan playwright, it's hard to compete with Shakespeare. The Bard has it all - the money, the chicks, and the dance moves - and he produces one masterpiece after another. This is the quandary faced by Nick and Nigel Bottom, two struggling Renaissance writers desperate to escape from under the great man's shadow. Seeking guidance, they turn to a local - and quite possibly very mad - soothsayer, who suggests that they might try their hand at a new form of theatre: a play that incorporates musical numbers. And so it shall be named Omelette - the world's first musical!
