Ellen Kent's renowned opera productions are known for their sumptuous artistic splendor and international talent and this epic staging of Verdi's Aida is no different. Featuring the Ukrainian Opera and Ballet Theatre Kiev, this stunning production pulls out all the stops, with both vocal and real fireworks, to tell the story of a captured slave girl and her forbidden lover.
What is the story?
Aida, a seemingly lowly Ethiopian slave girl is in love with her Egyptian captor Radames, a distinguished warrior on the battlefield. Unbeknownst to everyone, she is in fact the captured Princess of Ethiopia, whose furious father (and his army) is on his way to rescue her, laying waste to Egypt in his path. Adding to the sense of danger is Amneris, the Egyptian princess, whose intense love for Radames cannot shake the feeling that the mysterious Aida just may be her rival in love.
