Jesus Christ Superstar is Now On Sale

The 2017 Olivier award winner heads to the Barbican this Summer!

After winning over the theatre bigwigs at the Regent's Park Open Air Theatre, the 2017 Olivier award-winning (Best Musical Revival) production of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice's Jesus Christ Superstar is heading to the Barbican Centre this summer!

The limited 60 performance run comes after two-sell out runs at the Open Air venue and sees the second Andrew Lloyd Webber/Tim Rice production to be taking over London in the summer months, with their Joseph and The Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat take up residency at the London Palladium.

What is Jesus Christ Superstar about?

Beginning with the arrival of Jesus and his followers in Jerusalem, the story takes a new look at the struggles faced by both himself, and the infamous Judas Iscariot, using political themes and issues not explored in the Bible. Judas is seen here as more of a tragic antihero dissatisfied with how Jesus is leading and spreading the Word of God, rather than the cruel traitor we are used to seeing. Combining contemporary attitudes and modern slang, the song lyrics offer ironic allusions to modern life as we know it, in a new interpretation of the events of that fateful week.
